Sofia Airport (SOF) Car Rental

After hours returns (10pm–8am) are allowed free of charge for the Airport location. The customer should park the car in any empty spot at the National parking place and return vehicle keys in the drop box, which is located at the Counter area. All vehicle documents (the parking access card as well) should also be left in the drop box. After vehicle inspection in the morning, an National representative will contact you to inform you of the vehicle inspection result.

The minimum age requirement to drive all vehicles is 21. There is no maximum rental age. No additional fees apply to young drivers.

Out-of-country (cross-border) rentals are allowed to certain countries outside of Bulgaria. Out-of-country rentals require prior approval (at least 5 working days prior to the pick-up date) and are charged at an extra 120 EUR per rental.

Out-of-country rentals are allowed only into following countries: Albania, Bosnia, Greece, Germany, Moldova, Montenegro, Austria, Croatia, Italy, Romania, Slovakia, Slovenia, Serbia, Czech Republic, North Macedonia, Hungary and Switzerland.

Out-of-country rentals are not allowed to countries that are not listed above.

Process and publication of green cards (cross-border third-party insurance): the minimum amount of time for the publication of a green card is 5 working days. The green card covers the rental vehicle with basic insurance (T.P.I.) as long as it remains within the borders of the country for which it is issued. Roadside assistance — car replacement is available while driving to the above listed countries except Albania, Bosnia, Moldova and Montenegro.

The Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) reduces the excess in the event of damage to the vehicle.

If CDW is not included in the reservation, it is available for purchase at the rental counter. The standard excess is 720 EUR for the vehicle categories Mini and Economy, 1,200 EUR for Compact, Intermediate and Standard cars, and 1,800 EUR for Full-Size cars. The excess will be charged every time a vehicle is damaged, lost or not returned.

Before purchasing CDW, it is advisable to determine if the renter's personal coverage is adequate to cover damage, theft, loss of revenue, administration fees, diminishment of value, and any towing, storage or impound fees. If CDW is declined, the renter will be required to pay these charges and to seek compensation through their carrier of personal coverage. The Collision Damage Waiver (CDW) is not insurance.
All amounts above are inclusive of VAT.

One Way Rentals-
Domestic one way rentals are allowed for all car groups. Drop fees apply.
Domestic one-way drop fees-
Sofia to Bourgas vice versa 150.00 EUR plus VAT.
Sofia to Varna vice versa 180.00 EUR plus VAT.
Bourgas to Varna vice versa 70.00 EUR plus VAT.
Sofia Airport to Sofia City vice versa is free of charge.
One ways have to be pre-booked and the minimum length of rental must be at least 5 days for domestic one ways. All domestic one way rentals are on request.
International one-way rentals are also allowed on request to select locations. A drop fee applies. This fee amount varies depending on the one-way route and destination location. Refuelling policy — customers must return the car with a full tank or the same amount of fuel in the rental vehicle as at the time of pick-up, otherwise refuelling charges will apply. Unleaded or diesel — 3.00 EUR per litre, including VAT.

During the winter season, all rental vehicles are fitted with winter tyres in accordance with local road laws. Winter tyres are included in all rates. 

Major Credit Cards are accepted if issued by:

• Mastercard
• Visa

All cards presented must be in the renter's name.

Debit cards, cash and prepaid cards can be used to settle any outstanding balances at the end of the hire.

A security deposit plus the estimated cost of the hire will be taken at the time of hire.

The deposit amount is 290-590 EUR based on the following vehicle classes:
• 290 EUR for the categories Mini and Economy
• 490 EUR for the categories Compact, Intermediate, and Standard
• 590 EUR for Full-size

All drivers must present a full valid driving license and a valid identity card or passport. All drivers must also have held their full license for a minimum of 1 year. Renters holding a driving license from an EU member state or a country-state, which is part of the Vienna convention accordance to the law of treaties, do not require an International Driving Permit. For all other countries a valid International Driving Permit is required along with the national/ domestic driving license. Renters are advised to check whether local authorities require foreign drivers to present an International Driving Permit to avoid the risk of potential fines. Please note that we reserve the right to request additional ID or conduct further identification checks if needed, which may include an identity check with an external organization. Upon the United Kingdom leaving the European Union (EU) the requirements for UK Driving license holders driving in EU member states may change. Please check requirements before travelling.
